Immediate community based solutions to transit

There are three important things to note on LRT that need to be front and centre as we look at options:

First, no mayor of Surrey can decide alone on different technology – It goes through Translink, the federal government and other Mayors so what we need to do is be a regional leader on this change.

Second, we need to ensure the 1.6 Billion on the table for transit is kept in Surrey and used in the best way possible and as fast as possible. We may even need more later on.

Third, Surrey is absorbing the population growth for our whole region, so we need to ensure we are getting the proper infrastructure to handle that and make Surrey a great city. We are for skytrain as a solution to handle this growth.

We are committed to the following:

  • Take a regional leadership role on transit as mayor and council of the fastest growing city in Metro Vancouver Advocate for community shuttles in Surrey town centres with Translink
  • Enhance bus service throughout Surrey
  • Ensure that the 1.6 Billion dollars committed for transit is used in Surrey quickly and efficiently
  • Take a regional leadership role in advocating for more resources for Surrey
  • Press pause on LRT Phase 1, as we have not seen the business case for it, and take a leadership role with Translink and the province to ensure proper technology choices in Surrey
  • Take a regional leadership role in ensuring Skytrain on the Fraser Highway Corridor
